Shoot 3 purposeful images this week, each with a clear point of emphasis, and post them on your blog by Saturday; include a brief artist’s statement with each photo (Why did you take this photo? What was your intention? Why, specifically, did this image speak to you? Do you believe you were successful? Why or why not?).
With this image, I was hoping to lead the eye to this quiet conversation that was happening between two friends. I tried to use the lines the rocks created to bring you to the pair. This image spoke to me because it's something so simple, but when framed the right way, opens up the story to what was happening in that moment.
I am always really interested in "side stories" or narratives that aren't given the most focus. So, with this picture, I tried to evoke that same feeling. I wanted this to seem like a sweet story that happens between two characters that isn't quite the center of attention, but is endearing and leaves you wanting to explore their story more. Overall, I think this frame does a good job at leading you towards a specific point of emphasis.
I think this picture I was trying the hardest to fulfill the assignment description by finding a subject to be my emphasis and making a shot that lead to that. I used the lines of the fence and concrete to guide the eye toward my subject here. I think I did okay, but the sun glare might have been too much and too distracting from the purpose of this assignment/shot.
I love the way you've used line in the first two images to help enforce your point of emphasis. I definitely agree that your eyes are drawn where they should be. In the second image it's more subtle and I don't think the point of emphasis is as strong because of the tonal affinity of the image. But, their color contrast especially against the green background helps set them apart. In your third image I really like the composition and I think that it is exposed beautifully. However, I agree that the flare may be too distracting. Overall I think it's the lack of tonal contrast between the subject and the wall that hurts their role as emphasis. My eye is drawn instead to the flare because it's just so bright! Beautiful images all around.
